Roxy and Oliver had a beautiful wedding at spectacular venue overlooking Sydney Harbour. Roxy shared with us the details of her and Oliver’s special day.
How did you choose your dress?
It was honestly a breeze when choosing my wedding dress. Only because I knew the designer and exact style that I wanted! Vera Wang and a Princess gown – the two go hand in hand I suppose. As soon as I laid eyes on the stunning gown I knew it was perfect. It was glamorous and timeless and the colour wasn’t a crisp white but more of a champagne colour which is exactly what I was after.
Why did you choose your particular wedding style?
Oliver and I both wanted a really lavish yet classic theme with lots of floral arrangements incorporated into the décor. We didn’t really want anything too over the top or particularly niche, but something that when we looked back on in years’ time – we would still love the photos and not cringe at how outdated they were!
How did you style your ceremony and reception?
We wanted to keep our ceremony reception much more classic and understated. We opted for lots of white floral arrangements (including the stunning floral wall!) However we wanted to have a bit more fun with the colours at the reception and seeing as the décor at Quay was really crisp white and fresh, we wanted to contrast against this with really vibrant floral arrangements. We settled on bright reds, pinks and purples for a really strong visual effect! Even the food and cushions were in the same colour palette making for a really cohesive theme!
How did you know that your venue was the one?
We’d actually always known that we’d have our wedding at Quay. Being our favourite restaurant in Sydney – the amazing food and breathtaking views of the Sydney Opera House only strengthened this decision! It was also a fantastic location for our guests as they didn’t have to travel far and having such an amazing backdrop is something that we’ll always remember.
How did the day progress?
The day could not have been busier! My bridal party and mum came over to my place in the morning to meet for hair and makeup with our makeup artist and hairstylist. We sipped on some champagne while getting ready to calm our nerves and of course took as many photos as possible! The boys got ready on their yacht and I’ll assume that their experience was a lot quicker and less stressful.
We were then driven to Quay to commence our ceremony, and after that we took photos and joined our guests outside for canapes and drinks before our formal dinner. Once the main course finished, everyone took to speeches which were of course, absolutely hilarious! I’ve never cried and laughed so hard in my life. Just when I thought my cheeks couldn’t hurt anymore from smiling – the dancing began, a perfect way to top off the spectacular day!
What was your favourite moment from the day?
My favourite moment was definitely having our little pixie there with us. Her smile just completely lit up the room the whole day! Her contagious laughter had all the guests laughing along and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Do you have any words of wisdom for future brides?
Honestly the best advice I could give would be to just relax on the big day. You’ll be stressing so much in the lead up to the day that when it’s actually the wedding – you should enjoy your hard work. If something goes wrong, don’t sweat it because when you look back, it won’t be the small details that you’ll remember but the amazing memories with your partner and your loved ones.
